Gavin Mainwaring

After gaining his Bronze Medallion in 1967 Gavin soon became a valued rower in many of the club’s champion boat crews at state and national level. He was a member of several state teams due to his rowing (and running) prowess! He also developed a high level of sweeping skill and used this to propel Devonport to an Open Boat Final in 1999. He is one of very few people in Australia to have rowed (and medalled) in 1984 and swept in an Open Boat final.

Terms as Secretary and Club Captain have been a significant part of Gavin’s service to the Penguin SLSC. He still delights in watching our crews perform and give his valued advice if asked to do so.
